Early career

Wayne Godwin turned pro in 2002 by being signed from his local club Knottingley Rockware to play for Castleford Tigers until the end of 2004, making over 60 appearances. Wayne signed a two-year deal with Wigan after Castleford's relegation at the end of Super League IX.

Godwin signed for Hull in 2006

Bradford Bulls

Wayne signed for Bradford in 2008 and was the understudy to Terry Newton, during his time at Bradford he always wore the number 14 shirt and has established himself as a fan favourite. During his time at Bradford he played many different positions including loose forward several times. Mick Potter's arrival at Odsal and the arrival of the vastly experienced hooker Matt Diskin put Wayne in a position where he would be the 3rd choice hooker and would not feature in every game of the 2011 season. On December 20 it was rumoured and all but confirmed in the League Express that he was going to join Salford Reds on a 3 year deal.

Salford City Reds

It was announced that Wayne Godwin had joined Salford due to their intended hooker Tevita Leo Latu being refused a visa despite currently playing for Wakefield in the Super League. On Godwin's debut he scored a try vs Leigh Centurions but still lost 13-12, in his second game vs Wigan Warriors he didnt cross the line in Salford's 28-34 defeat against the current champions

Wayne was called into the England A squad for the 2004 European Nations cup.
